Three vehicles including an NStar truck collided on Route 28 in Hyannis late Friday night.HYANNIS - Despite the scene in these pictures no one was seriously injured in this crash in Hyannis. Police say the Chevy pickup (above right) driven by Manoel Ramos rear ended the Ford Contour (above right) driven by Arthur Lomba about 10:30 PM on Route 28 by Hiramar Road. The impact caused the Contour to collide with an NStar truck driven by Sean Knight which rolled on its side (right). Ramos reportedly failed a sobriety test at the scene and was arrested by Barnstable Police for operating under the influence of alcohol. Traffic on Route 28 between the Airport Rotary and Bearses Way was detoured for two hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was cleared. Story and photos by Frank Paparo.

Iran-Thailand trade 'up 75 per cent'

Non-oil trade between Iran and grew to $410 million in the first half of this year, up 75 per cent over the comparable 2006 figure of $234.60m, the Iranian ambassador to Thailand said on Saturday.

Mohsen Pakaeen did not provide any figures on Thai oil imports from his country, according to Iranian news agencies.

But he said the so-called "non-oil" trade was heavily in Thailand's favour _ $391 million worth of exports to Iran against just $18.94 million in imports from Teheran.

The ambassador said he has called on Iranian businessmen to visit Thailand more often in order to continue the export growth in both directions, citing improved flights between Teheran and Bangkok which "make the situation proper for the traders," the Iranian news agency Mehr News Agency reported.

Costa bravo! Spain is still a hot property

The weak dollar has made the US a tempting proposition, and every week seems to bring news of another overseas property hotspot. However, that old favourite, Spain, remains the most popular European destination for Brits moving abroad.

According to a survey of the top 20 buying destinations by A Place in the Sun magazine earlier this month, the country has taken the number one spot for the second year running.

It says its mix of great weather, rich culture and beautiful coastline are a hard combination to beat.

Getting a visa

There are no restrictions on living and working for EU nationals. But you do need to get an NIE number - a tax number for foreigners in Spain - if you are going to buy a house or a car, open a bank account or work for a Spanish company.

Ameren customers angered with rate increase proposal

Ameren officials are asking for $247 million more annually to help cover rising replacement costs for items such as utility grade wire, poles and plastic pipe. They claim the added revenue would not go toward offsetting the costs of rebates and refunds tied to this year's rate relief settlement. The Illinois Commerce Commission, which ultimately will decide to accept or reject Ameren's proposal, hosted the public hearing - the first of six statewide and the only hearing in the region.State Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, who asked the ICC to make Marion one of its stops, was not impressed with Nelson's presentation. He said another rate increase for the utility is unconscionable given that Ameren only had to pay back $150 million in rebates to its customers as part of the $1 billion agreement forged with the legislature last year."They say they're suffering, but they ought to see the suffering put on the people of Southern Illinois," Bradley said.
