| Hotel furnishings on the rebound
When I was in my mid-20s, I was living in London, making almost no money and staying in a dumpy, damp and cramped flat directly above the train tracks. As poor as I was, and as rough as my living conditions were, I had original artwork hanging on my wall, I had a flashy stereo and I slept on luxurious Frette linens every night. I wasn't living beyond my means, and no, I wasn't robbing banks, either. I just knew how to score some cheap goods when the local hotels were redecorating their rooms. You don't have to go begging at the back doors of hotels to get great furniture and accessories at rock-bottom prices. You see, when hotels renovate, they usually sell their out-of-date and worn furnishings to large liquidators. These companies resell the goods at huge warehouses located across the country.

CARAG — The former Music-Go-Round building at Lake Street and Fremont Avenues was demolished earlier this month to make way for construction staging for the Calhoun Square parking ramp. It’s a first step toward the Hennepin Avenue & Lake Street center’s long-awaited redevelopment planned to begin this spring. Demolition work and site clearing began Feb. 6 and was scheduled to last seven to 10 days, said the center’s general manager Gayle Siegler, who works for Minnetonka-based Capital Growth Madison Marquette (CGMM). CGMM manages the Calhoun Square property for owner BlackRock, a New York-based investment firm that bought the mall for $47.3 million last August.Development plans were scheduled to go before the city’s Plan Full Article .
Giant interest as Manning and Co. advance
I believe I actually replayed the whole game in my mind. Here is a quote by Ken Whisenhunt, Arizona Cardinals coach. "Other than the Giants are on a roll, Green Bay should win the game handily," the executive said. "Unless Green Bay just turns it over and does some stupid (expletive), I would say Green Bay looks pretty good right there. I would say I'd be shocked if Green Bay doesn't win. It could be a blowout." The odds are GB by 7....obviously still no respect for our Giants...but we like it that way...underdogs, on the road, etc. etc. Glad to see Ross wants to play. I hope he can. Shoulder separations are tricky! Props to the coaches for the 2nd half adjustment, to the DL and LB's for the pressure and stopping Barber and to the secondary for coming up huge at the end! However, my biggest prop goes to ELI.
Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"
The Otis and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary (and my 28th birthday) with our 2nd annual Karaoke Idol competition. Last year's was a blast. And I was truly honored that I wasn't one of the Bottom Three. (Though I thought I was deserving). My song is "Fancy." I've Athol-fied the lyrics, which should help me get in the judges good graces. Because I can tell you right now that my vocal stylings definitely won't help me win that shiny 1st place trophy. (Yes, folks, we are doing trophies this year). And I'm thinking of dressing the part. Maybe some Wranglers and a Stetson? -- Mommy Dearest/BrodH20. Mommy Dearest's Quandry: We have an awesome panel of judges: The Paula-licious Leenda the Ball, Megs Cowell and newbie Orange TV. Based on last year's judging, I haven't decided whether it's better to perform early when the judges are still stone-cold sober, or if it's better to wait until they've got that warm and fuzzy feeling in their veins.
